“You cannot do a kindness too soon, for you never know how soon it will be too late.” Ralph Waldo Emerson
Emerson’s observation has many followers at Pacific Coast Building Products and its family of companies. Company founder Fred Anderson and his wife, Pat, set an early example for service to their community and helping those less fortunate.
Pacific Coast has expanded upon that tradition through its employees’ tireless community involvement and the company’s generous charitable gifts. President /CEO Dave Lucchetti is deeply involved in children’s causes, as well as many other community and charitable activities. His example and active support of employee community involvement have encouraged others throughout the family of companies to do as much as possible for the communities the company serves.
However, most of the army of volunteers at the company’s many branches needed no encouragement. They were already active in their communities, but with Pacific Coast behind them leveraging their efforts, groups of employees organize task forces to meet an even wider variety of community needs. Today, nearly every branch from Hawaii to Colorado, Montana to Arizona regularly reaches out to those less fortunate in its area. Philanthropy has become a core value in the Pacific Coast culture. Some of the community activities undertaken in recent years are highlighted below.
Pacific Coast sponsored the first Derby Days on May 5, 2002, at Lucchetti Ranch to celebrate the running of the Kentucky Derby. Over $150 thousand was raised to benefit Miracles Through Music, which makes music therapy available to hospitalized children, Sierra Adoption Services, a private adoption agency that serves children least likely to be adopted, and Wind Youth Center, which offers shelter and outreach for homeless and high-risk youth. Employees, customers and vendors all supported the event.
Pacific Coast joined forces with three customers for the “3 Emigos Golf Tournament” to benefit Camp Okizu, an oncology camp for children with cancer. With the support of vendors and customers, the tournament raised just over $100 thousand for the camp.
In 2003, Pacific Coast joined forces with another customer, Roebbelen Contracting, Inc., to present Builders Fore Kids. The annual golf event brings together a host of vendors and customers to benefit children’s charities throughout the Greater Sacramento Area.
